The renowned publisher has appointed Ben Brinkman from the creators of Apex Legends to oversee the development team at their internal studio, which is currently crafting the anticipated third-person roguelike extraction-shooter known as this innovative game.

Leadership Shift Follows Poor Reception

Brinkman steps into the role of studio head at 31st Union following the exit of previous head Michael Condrey, who was reportedly let go due to Project Ethos' disappointing initial reveal last autumn.

I know you all just finished your meeting - I hope you’re as enthusiastic as I am with the recent updates. Last time I sent you all a message, I mentioned the following: “I am confident in this team. You all are some of the most motivated and innovative designers we have had the pleasure to work with - and we’re eager for that partnership to endure.”

Given your hard work and flexibility, especially over the past twelve months, you continue to prove that.

The community feedback from last autumn’s Project ETHOS demo was enlightening. It validated the appeal of a roguelike shooter but made clear we still had work to do. It highlighted the requirement for a sharper brand.

It has been motivating to see how far you’ve progressed. You accepted the feedback to consideration and overhauled the title with a renewed goal - one that’s ready to achieve its promise to our players.

The belief in Project ETHOS increases every day. To advance the incredible progress you’ve made, I’m excited to announce the new hire as the incoming Director of the team. After several months of discussions, he comes aboard us on next week.

Ben’s leadership and background in the competitive gaming space is vast, having spent the recent years developing and managing some of the most well-known franchises in the industry, including the acclaimed shooter, and most recently, Apex Legends.

The appointee presently serves in the role of senior developer and head of production at Respawn Entertainment for Apex Legends. Brinkman earlier worked at major gaming companies in diverse production roles on the Call of Duty games, and, prior to that, had assignments at other industry leaders.
