Paris Saint-Germain Defeats Marseille in a Shootout to Claim French Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.

PSG players celebrating

PSG has now claimed the prestigious trophy on 14 different times.

The Parisian giants required a stoppage-time leveler followed by a successful penalty shootout to overcome their arch-rivals in the Gulf and secure a fourth straight Trophee des Champions title.

The Champions League holders seemed to be coasting towards a straightforward win in the showdown featuring the Ligue 1 champions and the French Cup holders after Ousmane Dembele opened the scoring in the opening stages.

Yet, Marseille fired twice in the closing moments to seize a surprise advantage. First, Mason Greenwood scored from the spot-kick, before the defender unfortunately directed the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a remarkable turn of events, the Portuguese striker snatched a crucial equaliser in the dying seconds to send the contest into a deciding shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Chevalier then stood as the hero, stopping decisive kicks from O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

In the shootout, Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all scored with composure for PSG to complete a 4-1 shootout win.

Now 14-time champions Paris Saint-Germain, who met last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Olympique de Marseille after achieving a league and cup double, have now won this competition for the twelfth time in the past thirteen seasons.
